Chinese Herbal Medicine

The use of plant, animal and mineral substances for their medicinal value. Anywhere from 2-20 medicinal substances are combined in a formula to facilitate the unique health goals for each patient. As the oldest practiced system of herbal medicine in the world, the healing properties of these substances have been studied & utilized extensively.

Traditionally, a formula is taken as a custom-made tea, prepared and consumed daily. Formulas are now available in many forms although not all are customized. Other forms of herbal preparations include; plasters, tinctures, powders, capsules & pills.

I love the Chinese herbal pharmacopeia. There’s definitely some interesting ‘herbs’ in there. The classical formulas have been used for thousands of years for a reason! Taking an herbal formula daily, is like getting acupuncture everyday. It is a great therapy on it’s own, but works wonderfully as an adjunct therapy to acupuncture. When anyone tells me of a symptom or concern they are having, my mind immediately goes to which formula could help them. So I will pretty much recommend a formula for the majority of my patients.
